We are building healthcare that works differently. Here’s what to know.
Insurance & Coverage
-
No. Insurance is not required to receive care at The Iris Center.
The clinic does not bill insurance for office visits. This allows us to keep visit costs lower and more predictable. When clinics bill insurance, rates are often shaped by coding requirements, administrative overhead, and negotiated reimbursement rules. Those systems tend to increase costs and add complexity for both patients and providers.
By not billing insurance for visits, we are able to offer defined prices for services. You can view pricing in advance, choose the type and length of your appointment, and know the full cost before you arrive. That amount is the final price you will owe for the visit.
Insurance can still be used for prescriptions, labs, imaging, or other services ordered outside of your appointment, depending on your coverage.
Our goal is to make care straightforward and accessible. Healthcare should not be confusing or difficult to navigate, and this model allows us to serve the community with fewer barriers.
-
Not at this time. Current regulations do not allow us to provide care to Medicaid-covered patients, even at low or no cost. We know this is disappointing. If you have Medicaid and need support, you’re welcome to email us for provider recommendations. You can read our full explanation on the Medicaid page.
-
Yes. Insurance can often be used for labs, imaging, prescriptions, or referrals that are ordered by The Iris Center or completed outside of the clinic, depending on your coverage.
The Iris Center does not bill insurance for office visits, but many patients use their insurance alongside care here.
Pricing & Payment
-
Visit costs are set in advance and listed on our Services & Pricing page.
Care at The Iris Center is patient-led. You choose the type of visit and the length of time you need based on your concerns, rather than being placed into a predefined billing category. The price you see for that service is the full cost of the visit.
Because the clinic does not bill insurance for office visits, pricing is not adjusted after the fact and does not change based on coding, coverage, or reimbursement rules. There are no copays or surprise charges added later.
Care is provided based on medical need, not on whether someone is able to contribute financially. For a full list of services and current pricing, please visit the Services & Pricing page.
-
No one should be turned away from healthcare because of financial barriers.
If the listed visit fee is not accessible to you, we encourage you to reach out to the clinic directly. You can call the office, email us, or use the contact form to let us know you need assistance.
We approach these situations with care and discretion and will work with you to find a path forward. This is part of why The Iris Center exists, to help ensure care remains available to the community it serves.
-
Payment is typically completed at the time of your visit.
If needed, you may also complete payment online after your appointment through our secure payment portal.
If you have questions about payment timing, our team is happy to help.
-
For visits at the clinic, we accept all major credit cards, debit cards, and checks.
We currently do not accept cash, nor do we keep cash on-site for the safety of our staff and patients.
Online donations are processed through Givebutter, which supports multiple payment options including credit and debit cards, Venmo, Apple Pay, Google Pay, and other methods offered through that platform.
Payments made through our online patient payment portal are processed through our electronic medical record system and accept major credit and debit cards.
If you have questions about payment options, our team can help clarify what’s available.
-
In many cases, yes. HSA and FSA cards can typically be used to pay for eligible medical services, including office visits and care provided at the clinic.
HSA and FSA cards are accepted through our patient payment portal, as well as for in-person payments when applicable. Coverage and eligibility can vary by plan, and some administrators may require an itemized receipt.
If you have questions about whether a specific service is covered under your plan, we recommend checking directly with your HSA or FSA provider.
Care & Access
-
The Iris Center serves individuals and families in the community who are seeking primary care.
Our approach to care is grounded in diversity, equity, and inclusion. We aim to create a welcoming, respectful environment for anyone who needs care, regardless of background or circumstances.
Patients come to us from Fort Collins and surrounding areas, as well as from outside the region. If you have questions about whether The Iris Center is a good fit for your needs, we encourage you to call or email the clinic so we can help guide you.
-
We provide comprehensive primary care for a wide range of needs, from routine check-ins to ongoing health concerns. Care is shaped around the person in front of us, not a narrow visit type.
Services include wellness and preventive care, affirming care, support for chronic conditions, acute visits for new concerns, and telehealth when appropriate. Providers can also order labs and make referrals as part of your care.
For a full list of services and details about what’s offered, you can explore our Services page.
-
The Iris Center currently offers two appointment lengths.
You can schedule either a 30-minute or a 60-minute visit, depending on your needs. Both options are available for in-office and virtual appointments.
You choose the length of your visit when scheduling, based on how much time you feel you need and the type of care you’re seeking. Details about appointment options are available on the Services & Pricing page.
-
Yes. The Iris Center offers virtual visits when appropriate.
Virtual appointments are available for many types of care and can be scheduled for different visit lengths, just like in-office appointments.
If you’re unsure whether a virtual visit is a good fit for your needs, our team can help guide you.
-
No. A donation is never required to receive care at The Iris Center.
The clinic relies on community support to remain open, but care is not conditional on giving. There is no expectation, obligation, or requirement to donate in order to be seen.
The Iris Center was created to be accessible to the community it serves. If you need care, our doors are open to you.
About the Clinic
-
Yes. The Iris Center operates as a nonprofit organization with 501(c)(3) status.
-
The Iris Center was created as a nonprofit primary care clinic because healthcare should be an act of care, not a profit-driven transaction.
We wanted to build a clinic that is not constrained by insurance requirements or corporate rules that can shape how care is delivered. Operating outside those systems allows us to focus on people rather than productivity targets, billing codes, or financial incentives.
This approach reflects a belief that healthcare should serve the community it belongs to and be grounded in human values, including dignity, equity, and inclusion. Community support makes it possible for this kind of care to exist.
If our work or this model speaks to you, we would be grateful for your support so we can continue providing high-quality healthcare in a system we believe in.
-
Established patients receive updates related to their care directly through the clinic’s secure electronic medical record (EMR) system and patient portal.
